International network

ATLaS is in connection with ICL, the International Consortium on Landslides, a network of 89 scientific organizations in 34 countries. The principal ICL objectives are to: promote landslide research for the benefit of society and the environment; integrate geosciences and technology within the appropriate cultural and social contexts in order to evaluate landslide risk in urban, rural and developing areas including cultural and natural heritage sites; coordinate international expertise in landslide risk assessment and mitigation studies; promote a global, multidisciplinary programme on landslides, the International Programme on Landslides (IPL).

The ICL supporting organizations are:

  • The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)
  • The World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
  • The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO)
  • The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)
  • The United Nations University (UNU)
  • The International Science Council (ISC)
  • The World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO)
  • The International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS)
  • The International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG)

ATLaS, in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair on the Prevention and Sustainable Management of Geo-Hydrological Hazards, is also involved in other international scientific networking for the landslide risk reduction: International Consortium on Geo-disaster Reduction (ICGdR) and Global Alliance of Disaster Research Institutes (GADRI).
